OWASSA, MI-- Once a year, these very competitive fisherman put aside their differences by celebrating the carp. On such an occassion as Carpe Carp Diem (seize the carp day), a moderately sized lake is stocked with thousands of carp and fishers go at it. This year's champion is Owassa's very own Umberto Ortiz who happens to be the only man from Michigan in the entire competition. He just happened to catch the largest carp. Sounds a little fishy to me.
Umberto Ortiz holds the carp boldly claiming, "I am a true carpathian!"
Professional fisherman BassMaster and two-time Carpe Carp Diem Champion Richie Boggs thought it was a little fishy too, and in a press conference after the competition he said that the competition was rigged. The press bought it hook, line, and sinker, but the Owassa Fishers Society decided to not bite at the bait and just give Ortiz the trophy anyways.
